Our client is looking for a Maintenance & Engineering Manager to oversee all aspects of their maintenance, electrical and instrumentation and engineering departments. Cosmo Specialty Fibers is a dissolving wood pulp sulfite mill manufacturing a tangible, in-demand product to a world wide market.

Located near the coast, Cosmopolis is the oldest city in Grays Harbor, Washington. Cosmopolis has access to 7 bodies of water and 15 state parks, including Capitol State Forest, Pacific Pines, Ocean City, and Quinault Rain Forest, which is one of only two temperate rainforests in the Northern Hemisphere. Terms: Permanent, Full-time.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.


10+ years of experience in key maintenance/engineering roles in a manufacturing or production environment.
5+ years of experience supervising or managing a maintenance/engineering team.
Experience in Pulp, Paper, and/or Forest Products experience is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

A hands-on leader who is relatable and has the ability to motivate teams.
Demonstrated successful performance in managing outages, shut-downs and start-ups.
Strong understanding of manufacturing electrical and mechanical systems with demonstrated troubleshooting ability.
Must possess knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safe work practices.
Demonstrated ability to read and/or develop and understand CAD drawings, instrument identifications, flowsheets, flat-line and isometric drawings, bill of material spreadsheets, equipment lists, etc.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, team building, training and development and change management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Outlook with the ability to learn new applications as required.
Astute leader who knows how to navigate an organization and get to the heart of an issue, while skilled in bringing about planned change to core business processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead the maintenance department including implementing and maintaining an adequate, scalable system process and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the production within the mill.
Listen and value ideas and concerns from the front lines and all levels.
Plan and direct project activities, personnel, material, and equipment to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, and with quality workmanship.
Provide solutions to technical problems and recommendations for improvements in production activities and manage the mill technical organization.
Create and manage all assigned operating budgets and work with leadership to develop and deliver the capital budget with a focus on both short-term and long-term maintenance needs.
Monitor various KPIs to measure the effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities in the various maintenance functions.
Recruit, train, plan, assign and direct work, evaluate, coach and develop, reward and discipline, address complaints and resolve problems and keep assigned employees informed of company information, policies, process and/or procedures.
Other duties as required.

Exposure to a wide range of temperatures, vibrations, odors, fumes or airborne particles.
Exposure to noise levels that are frequently loud, as is common in a manufacturing and/or mill operation.
