Responsibilities:

WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:

Customer/Business Orientation:

  • Provides leadership and coaching to team.
  • Completes tasks independently / interdependently.
  • Consequences of error carry a high risk to the organization.
  • Focus on internal and external Customer requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance / coaching to business Customers as required.

Project Management:

  • Develop time estimates for project schedules, monitor progress and provide accurate and timely reports.
  • Plan and manage project activities within allocated resources.
  • Manage resolution of problems and escalate as required.
  • Support the organizations project management policy, practice and methodology.
  • Must have advanced skills with the basic PC software utilized to perform their daily duties, i.e. Word, Excel, Visio, etc
  • Must have advanced experience in project management and vendor relations
  • Must have advanced written and verbal skills.

Problem Solving:

  • Analyze and resolve complex or multiple problems.
  • Independently research and recommend alternate actions for problem resolution.

Testing/Deliverable Quality:

  • Participate in system testing.
  • Test and implement hardware and operating systems components using techniques that preserve system integrity.
  • Understand implications of situations and proactively lead cross-functional problem resolution.

Production Support:

  • Will be required to carry / respond promptly to an on-call pager on a rotating basis with other System Engineers.
  • Responsible for immediate response to system software problems.
  • Needs an advanced understanding of root cause analysis procedures.
  • Provide technical problem resolution.
  • Assure functional and technical integrity of system software designs.
  • Must be able to travel on a limited basis to install or troubleshoot equipment at end user locations. Travelling could be heavier during project implementations.

Financial Accountability:

  • Input to budget
  • Perform technical cost-benefit analysis.
  • Assist in organizational, financial capital and operational planning.

System Engineer Platforms :

  • Provide Leadership for the installation, customization, and maintenance of systems developed internally and / or in conjunction with outside vendor.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, to influence in the design process.
  • Provide Leadership for the effort to assist project team/business Customers in evaluating, developing, implementing and supporting system architecture components.
  • Advanced knowledge of hardware components, operation systems and networking issues.
  • Strong and varied background and practical experience with hardware and operation system technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of patch and upgrade procedures for hardware and operating systems
  • Architects large, multi-site cross-platform backup and recovery solutions.

System Engineering Software:

  • Provide Leadership for the installation, customization, and maintenance of systems software developed internally and / or in conjunction with outside vendor.
  • Strong and varied experience in all aspects of system software. Includes system monitoring, middle-ware, publish/subscribe messaging and web services.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to influence the design process.
  • Provide leadership for the effort to assist project teams/business Customers in evaluating, developing, implementing and supporting system architecture components.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of patch and upgrade procedures for system software.

System Engineering Security:

  • Leads the creation and implementation of the overall Security Awareness program.
  • Creates and manages the overall policy and Program Management strategy.
  • Leads the overall technical strategy for system security. Oversees integration of individual components.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to other areas of Systems Engineering to assist in maintaining security for hardware and operating systems.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to Common Services and Application Teams to assist in maintaining software security.

System Engineer Networking:

  • Provide Leadership for the installation, customization, development, implementation, and maintenance of network systems developed internally and / or in conjunctions with outside vendors.
  • Evaluates and recommends emerging networking technologies, to influence the design process.
  • Provide Leadership for the effort to assist project teams/business Customers in evaluating, developing, implementing and supporting network architecture components.
  • Advanced knowledge of a wide array of network cabling, print-outs and equipment specifications
  • Strong and varied background and heavy experience with networking technologies.
  • Design cost effective network solutions that support business needs.
  • Help manage the relationships with the network providers and vendors.
  • Manage the IP addressing and DNS for SWA.

Data Network:

  • Design, implement and provide second level support for the WAN, routed network and LAN at all SWA facilities.
  • Manage the IP addressing and DNS for SWA.
  • Telecom
  • Design, implement and provide second level support for the telecom network, Call management and Call accounting systems, and the Reservations ACD systems for SWA.

Firewall:

  • Design, implement and provide second level support for the firewall network at SWA.
  • Design, implement and provide second level support for host load-balancing solutions at SWA.

Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.

May perform other job duties as directed by Employees Leaders.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

  • BS / MS Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent formal training preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 or more years (or equivalent knowledge base) work experience in Systems Engineering required.
  • Strong customer service and support skills required.
  • Strong Analytical and Troubleshooting skills required.
  • Experience dealing with product support vendors required.
  • Strong business acumen required.
  • Able to provide mentoring and leadership to peers and junior team members required.
  • Hands on experience with in-memory storage concepts and tools preferred.
  • Experience with Pivotal Gemfire in a production support environment preferred.
  • Linux administration experience preferred.
  • Shell scripting experience preferred.
  • Experience working with/developing in scripting language such as R or Python preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

Core Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of key system engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge across technical / business environments.

Critical Skills:

  • Ability to work independently within specific technology area or across multiple technology areas to perform basic troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development, and implementation.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve multiple, complex problems.
  • Ability to lead the technical work of others / coach, mentor.

  • Excellent partnering, negotiation and communication skills.
