Primary purpose:
The purpose of this position is to provide and ensure the engineering activities necessary for the development, enhancement, design, installation, and in-service support for all automation activities within KMI, including the SCADA and PLC systems.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
Design / Build / Change automation systems that meet regulatory requirements, meet company operation requirements, and meet company business requirements
o Gather all requirements to support automation system design and support.
o Participate in design of automation systems.
o Provide recommendations for changes to automation systems.
o Make changes to existing automation system (PLC code or SCADA Applications)
Work with operations engineers, project engineers, design engineers and contractors to design specific control systems for KMI facilities.
Perform or support the installation and commissioning of control system changes.
Provide in-service support, which includes training company personnel, repairing and servicing existing automation and SCADA systems.
Perform project management duties such as review and manage expenditures and commitments, prepare monthly cost control reports, manage third party contractors, prepare project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules. These duties are required for both projects, handled as a project manager and as SCADA and controls support of other engineering projects.
Provide technical support to Operations for troubleshooting HMI and PLC problems. This will include coordination with field technicians and third party integrators.
Report on the activity of all work using approved company reporting process.
Participate in company automation standards creation and reviews.
Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets, employees, and the general public.
Minimum requirements:
Education:
Engineering training in control system software or Engineering technology degree or equivalent professional experience.

Experience / Specific Knowledge:
Three years experience in industrial control programming, installation or operation
PLC Ladder Logic : example ( Allen Bradley or GE)
Controls Software: : example ( Wonderware or Rockwell)
ISA Control Standards
National Electric Code

Certification, licenses, registrations:
A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.

Competencies, skills, and abilities:
Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.
Must be accountable and take direction from Managers; keep required work schedules, which include regular and predictable job attendance; focus attention on details; follow work rules.
Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.
Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.

Physical demands:
Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.

Working Conditions:
May be required to work alone (unsupervised).
Must be willing and able to travel up to 30% of the time to KM facilities located throughout North America as required in performing job duties.
Respond to requests to work outside normal business hours during company emergencies.
Accepts support phone calls out side of normal business hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
Work in various industrial sites that transport or store petroleum products.
Majority of the work will be conducted from an office environment. Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities.

Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:
Above the minimum requirement; not required but advantageous in this position:
Knowledge of pipeline operations.
Project management skills will be helpful, such as project scoping, estimating, schedule development and cost control.
