Bombardier Transportation is one of the most important manufacturers of rolling stock in Italy and is involved in some of the countrys most important rail projects; Trenitalias various types of electric locomotives- including the E464 which is the largest single line in the Trenitalia fleet (more than 700 vehicles). The group employs around 800 people in Italy. 600 people are located in Vado Ligure, the plant set up in 1905 where close to 2,000 locomotives have been manufactured to date. 200 people work at its engineering centre in Rome, dedicated to the development of rail control solutions, signaling equipment and rail traffic management systems.

For our Vado Ligure site, we are currently looking to recruit a Senior Buyer (m/f):

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The role of the Senior Buyer is to maximize value to the company and its customers of all assigned purchased parts, assemblies, subcontracts and services through the use of professional procurement practices and techniques; the Senior Buyer is responsible for the development and maintenance of long term, mutually beneficial supplier relationships, while continually improving the quality of material and services and the procurement process. He/she has to ensure the subsystem availability throughout the production and installation process while maintaining overall cost (and inventory, depending on allocation) at the lowest level and highest quality. The Senior Buyer participates in initial project or tender phase or in buying completely new material and evaluating risks.

The Senior Buyer will have a particular focus on Electrical items and Systems.

The Senior Buyer also needs to organize the supplier performance governance activities across the site including KPI monitoring, chargeback and financial follow-up; execute improvement plans for critical and low performing suppliers.

YOUR TASKS

Manage purchase contracts for projects within scope

Negotiate with suppliers and issue purchase orders or entire frame contracts for dedicated projects

Ensure material delivery and facilitate the execution of the purchase contract in coordination with the project team

Analyze and monitor systems, subsystems and parts delivery to ensure coverage to meet project schedule

Execute purchasing strategy jointly with Expediting/Operations or Project Team with regard to On-time-delivery

Collaborate with other functions to ensure project success by representing Supply Management at meetings and work autonomously to resolve problems

Assessing risk in the supply and align with Procurement Project Manager and Project Team on acceptable level of risk of the project and take it into consideration for the commercial negotiation with the supplier. Govern Financial follow-up of the local suppliers

Lead all negotiations with suppliers or sub-contractors with participation of the appropriate functions in the region

Support major claim and /or Charge Back processes

Support and lead Supplier Performance Governance Network in the country

Organize local performance governance for monitored and/or local suppliers from selection to services though whole life dashboard including KPI monitoring

Execute improvement activities for low performing & critical suppliers (including Alert meetings and crisis management) in close collaboration with the Procurement and Supply Chain Team and with Regional Supplier Governance.

Develop supplier performance

Maintain fluent relationship with suppliers

Optimize number of suppliers

Expedite suppliers and support Expediting Team to ensure delivery of purchase parts on time.

Negotiate and Administer terms and conditions with suppliers. Manage the changes in each subcontract or supply contract with the help of the Project Team.

Analyse supplier risks

Support Commodity and Lead Buyers and the Procurement Network in negotiations, claims and visits to Suppliers upon relevance.

Manage material cost reduction activities

Explore continuously material cost reduction opportunities

Challenge the status-quo and find new and innovative ways to source material

Liaise with colleagues within the Bombardier Procurement network to maximize ideas for delivering cost reduction both regionally and cross-business

Operational purchasing

Adjust quantity and process technical modification of the orders

Manage the purchase order in the ERP systems

Adhere to all BT governance requirement and tools

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in a technical field is highly preferred

Minimum 5 years of experience, of which at least 2-3 years of procurement experience with increasing responsibility

Railway background is preferred, but experience in other highly technological large companies will also be considered (e.g. automotive, aerospace)

Strong knowledge of key procurement processes

Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP or other), SMIS

Knowledge of Quality standards (e.g. ISO and/or IRIS) Experience in Supplier Evaluation and Approval Process, Parts Approval Process

Problem resolution/root cause analysis (8D, etc.) and practical experience on quality planning, methods and tools (8D, RCA, FMEA, )

Driving license

Strong communication and negotiation skills
