Responsibilities:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Intern will support communications within the following Team:NOC (Network Operations Control)administration.

Write content for departmental publications, including memos and letters.

Write, edit and postcommunications on SWALife for the NOC Department

Design content for digital signs.

Assist with loading and scheduling content for Employee departmental websites.

Edit and proofread Company material.

Serve as communication liaison to other departments and/or field locations

Participate in event planning, speech preparations, and escorting guests to NOC

Attend cross-functional meetings as needed.

Complete special projects as needed.

Assist with strategic communications planning.

Assist with other NOC Administrative processes as needed.

Possible travel involved.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

Progress towards degree, major, or minor in aCommunications, Public Relations, Journalism, Emerging Media, Business or Communications relatedfield required.

Minimum junior status or above.

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).

Maintained 3.0 or above cumulative GPA.

Experience:

Communications related work experience preferred (part-time jobs, internships, etc).

Writing experience preferred (school newsletter, business, or creative).

Experience using the Adobe Suite a plus.

Leadership experience is a plus.

Participation in trade/industry organizations, community involvement, and/or school clubs preferred.

Event planning experience preferred.

Knowledge and skills in using social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) preferred.

Experience using Documentum (or other content management system) is a plus.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Work Style:

Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must possess a strong proficiency of the English language, including superior grammar, spelling, and organizational skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

Must have a passion for social media.

Understanding of the airline/travel industry is a plus.

Possess a strong understanding of how Customers and Employees use communication channels to communicate with the Southwest brand

Must excel in content creation such as script writing, video editing, storytelling, and creative writing

Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as part of a Team.

Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and work well under pressure.

Must have ability to comprehend, proofread, and edit a variety of documents with a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail.

Must handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost professionalism.

Must be able to present self well to meet public and have the ability to present in large or small settings. Public speaking skills and/or experience a plus.
