Description:

This internship is designed to support Flight Operations in a Safety, Procedures, or Training Development role.

In these positions the intern may have the opportunity to assist with overall Flight Operations and Pilot management, voluntary safety programs, safety risk management, investigations, SMS and a variety of other corporate wide interface activities within the department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include assisting with projects, research, data analysis, technology development, presentations and meetings that support the role of the Flight Operations Group.

Assist with coordination, organization and administrative duties for the Flight Operations Group.

May be asked to assist or work closely with other Flight Operations Groups including: Procedures, Daily Operations, Training, Quality Assurance, Safety and Compliance.

Must adhere to all Southwest Airlines corporate policies including the protection and security of confidential and proprietary information.

Possible travel involved.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

Progress towards degree in Aviation, Aeronautics, or Flight related field is required

Coursework in Aviation Safety, Aviation Management, Human Factors, Engineering or Computer Science preferred.

Minimum junior level.

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).

Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

Aviation related job experience preferred.

A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and Apple Products, including the use of Pivot Tables, querying, and data analysis in Microsoft Excel is preferred.

Strong computer skills and programming in XML preferred.

Participation in trade/industry organizations, community involvement, and/or school clubs preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Technical writing experience preferred.

Knowledgeable of aviation human factors is preferred.

Excellent analytical and organizational skills required.

Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and work well under pressure.

FAA Airman Certificates and Ratings are preferred.
