Responsibilities:

DESCRIPTION:

This internship is designed to support the processes and systems used to Schedule and Pay Southwest Pilots.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interns in this department may be expected to communicate with other groups that interact with Flight Operations and Pilot Scheduling processes, including Flight Operations, Technology, and the Network Operations Center.

In this position the intern may assist with the improvement of any and all Pilot Scheduling tools and processes, including support websites, Southwest Pilot Scheduling applications, reporting tools, etc.

Interns will be expected to learn and understand the Scheduling operation and communication processes; this may include day of procedures impacted by irregular operations and/or back office support.

Interns may work with Pilot Scheduling Leadership to perform gap analyses and potential process improvement.

Given the Southwest provided processes and toolsets, the intern may implement project requirements and design new tools for Scheduling policies, procedures, communication and culture.

Must adhere to all Southwest Airlines corporate policies including the protection and security of confidential and proprietary information.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

Progress towards degree in Aviation, Business, Communications, Systems Analyst or related field is required

Coursework in Aviation Management, Business Communication or Tech Writing preferred

Minimum junior level

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours).

Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

Strong computer skills preferred including experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Ability to analyze and understand Business procedures required

Excellent oral and written communication skills required

Analytical and organizational skills required

Technical writing experience preferred

Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and work well under pressure required

Participation in trade/industry organizations, community involvement, and/or school clubs preferred
