Responsibilities:

WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:

  • Serves in a consulting role on Companywide initiatives focused on sustainability and citizenship.
  • Serves as strategic advisor to the highest level of department Leadership and works with all levels of Employees as necessary.
  • Responsible for developing strategy and goals for initiatives related to the Company's citizenship efforts, establishing, managing and reporting on KPI, and reporting on those goals as needed for internal and external audiences.
  • Active member of Community Programs and Engagement Team; must demonstrate autonomy by leading strategy, gathering content from multiple sources, obtaining and coordinating the proper approvals, and writing appropriately timed content or recommendations to be delivered on an extensive scale and platform.
  • Assist Southwest with green initiatives such as upcycling, recycling, and down cycling working with Supply Chain and Environmental Services to develop stronger full cycle process as we purchase, replace, and repurpose our materials as a responsible consumer.
  • Serve as Internal Project Manager working with the One Report agency and cross-departmental team to develop all the key indicators and metrics determined for the report as well as managing the process to transition to G4 reporting level.
  • Develop the strategy for evolving the One Report over the coming years and handling that evolution.
  • Serve as Internal expert on GRI (have or get certification) to assist in determining direction for Southwest on GR indicators and our reporting to ensure we are hitting requirements and achieving best in class.
  • Serve as point for all ratings and ranking inquiries to ensure our answers are accurate and fully explained for our best results in rankings and awards as well as assisting with any potential award applications.
  • Organize and manage Green Team programs and efforts to re-enforce current programs while developing new ideas.
  • Support Southwests efforts with D&I group to ensure we are meeting CSR standards.
  • Work with team on charitable partnerships to maximize for sustainability and citizenship including supporting international programs in areas of local interest such as eco-tourism and placemaking as part of the overall environmental platform.
  • Develop new partnerships and relationships to better fit GR standards in environment specifically on biodiversity and other areas.
  • Work with Communications to create vision for new stories and ideas across all departments to share with Customers to put best foot forward in area of citizenship and sustainability.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of this changing field and act as internal advisor to keep others informed.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors degree required

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently working in the field of sustainability or citizenship with a minimum of 6 9 years in areas such as human resources, diversity and inclusion, community outreach, or other applicable fields required.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

  • Global Reporting Index (GRI) certification preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

  • Must be technically proficient with Microsoft Office products especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and able to produce multi page documents, charts and reports.
  • Must have exceptional organizational skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills on a level .
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented with superb ability to proofread and correct errors with minimal supervision.
  • Must have ability to speak confidently in front of large and small groups, including providing counsel to Executive Leaders.
  • Must be a motivated, self-starter able to prioritize and organize projects with time constraints and the ability to complete them in a timely manner.
  • Works well with Internal and External Customers to achieve the goals of Southwest Airlines, actively participating in meetings and departmental functions as necessary to ensure successful results .
  • Must demonstrate a strategic thought process; proactive initiative and a sense of urgency.
  • Must take ownership and accountability.
  • Must be available to travel as needed.

Must meet confidentiality expectations pertaining to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information.

Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
