While most people are under the impression that the product or service is what makes or breaks a company, that notion is incorrect. It really doesn’t matter what you sell build, produce or offer without the main ingredient backing your business up – people!

Your employers are your biggest strength and are what is stringing your business together. All the dreams, goals and plans you have for your business require the work of many skilful minds and hands. That is why it is more than just important to ensure that your employers are happy and in turn more productive. You have to make your employees feel needed; much like you would need to do so for every valuable relationship in your life. It is important to remember that although the company may be solely yours, your employees are not just a bunch of minions, their happiness at the job is vital to the success of your company in the long run.

Make them feel like they are in charge

It is important to make your employees feel like they are an important part of the company and that their actions are vital to the company. Define roles and responsibilities well so that your employees feel like what is theirs, is entirely theirs. People tend to want to be successful at a job when they know it is solely dependent on them

Trust your employees

A lot of employers tend to play it safe by giving particular employees a fixed task for years on end. Rid yourself of the over-cautiousness and do not be afraid to try out new responsibilities. This will cause them to believe that you trust them enough with something challenging and build up their confidence as well. It may seem like a risk but it results in employees that respect you more and feel much more valued. A bigger risk would be having bored employees.

Keep them well informed

Keep your employees up-to-date on what’s going on in the office. As a leader you will always know the bigger picture and perhaps communicating this knowledge with your employees will help them take their work seriously. It also helps combat problems and offer more solutions if needed.

Money is important

Initially the pay package is important to an employee. But once they have been working for a while the motivation tends to shift to other things. It is important to maintain the value of the work with perks insurance and a reasonable compensation; however motivation should come from the above mentioned sources. However, if an employee feels that they are being paid unfairly, you should work on a strategy to combat this, especially if you are happy with their services and intend on retaining them.
